These four expansions represent some of the most memorable parts of the Sword & Shield era, from the introduction of Single Strike and Rapid Strike cards to the Lost Zone, VSTAR Pokémon and the beautiful Trainer Gallery subsets.

Why Sword & Shield Sealed Booster Boxes Still Matter
The Sword & Shield series ran from 2020 to 2023 and introduced the Pokémon V, VMAX, VSTAR, and Radiant Pokémon mechanics — each building on the last to create one of the most mechanically innovative eras the Pokémon TCG has seen.
These sets are now out of print. The Pokémon Company no longer manufactures them. Every sealed booster box that exists is one of a fixed number remaining in the world — and that number decreases every time someone opens one.
For collectors, that makes sealed boxes from this era genuinely interesting long-term holds. For players, these sets still contain powerful, beautiful cards that defined competitive play during their era. And for anyone who missed a set when it was current, a sealed box is the most authentic way to experience it now.
Battle Styles — The Set That Changed How You Build a Deck

Battle Styles introduced one of the most impactful mechanics in Sword & Shield history: Single Strike and Rapid Strike — two distinct fighting styles that changed how competitive decks were constructed from the moment the set dropped.
Single Strike cards focus on raw power and single, devastating attacks. Rapid Strike cards are built around combos, multiple targets, and chains of effects. The two styles play completely differently — and the set's headline Pokémon, Rapid Strike Urshifu VMAX and Single Strike Urshifu VMAX, became two of the most played Pokémon in competitive Pokémon TCG for months after release.
Rapid Strike Urshifu VMAX's G-Max Rapid Flow attack could knock out two of your opponent's Pokémon in a single turn. Single Strike Urshifu VMAX hit for enormous damage with one devastating strike. Both are among the headline cards featured in Battle Styles.
Beyond the Urshifu cards, Battle Styles features alternate art versions of Houndoom, Empoleon, Victini, and Tyranitar — some of the most visually striking cards from the Sword & Shield era — alongside 20 secret rare cards including Rainbow Rares and Gold cards.

Chilling Reign — The Crown Tundra Comes to Cards

Chilling Reign brought the Crown Tundra DLC to the Pokémon TCG — and with it came one of the most sought-after pairs of cards in the entire Sword & Shield era.
Ice Rider Calyrex VMAX and Shadow Rider Calyrex VMAX are the headliners. Calyrex — the Legendary Pokémon that fused with its trusted steeds Glastrier and Spectrier — arrived as two completely different VMAX powerhouses, each with a distinct playstyle. Shadow Rider Calyrex VMAX became one of the dominant psychic attackers in competitive play. Ice Rider Calyrex VMAX also became an important competitive card, with a playstyle distinct from Shadow Rider Calyrex VMAX.
Chilling Reign also featured the Galarian forms of the Kanto Legendary Bird trio — Galarian Articuno, Galarian Zapdos, and Galarian Moltres — all appearing as Pokémon V, plus Blaziken VMAX, Slowbro V, and Blissey V. The set's alternate-art cards include some of the most atmospheric illustrations of the Sword & Shield era, including the striking Ice Rider Calyrex artwork.

Astral Radiance — The Hisui Region Arrives

Astral Radiance is the Pokémon Legends: Arceus set. The Hisui region — the ancient version of Sinnoh that captivated players in early 2022 — arrives in the Pokémon TCG with new Hisuian Pokémon, powerful VSTAR mechanics, and a brand-new bonus subset.
The stars of the set are Origin Forme Dialga VSTAR and Origin Forme Palkia VSTAR — the two legendary Pokémon at the heart of Pokémon Legends: Arceus' story. Each features striking, dramatic artwork that captures the gravity of their appearance in the game, and both were immediately competitive on release. Dialga's Star Chronos VSTAR Power is one of the most powerful VSTAR abilities ever printed — it essentially gives you an extra turn.
Astral Radiance also continued the Trainer Gallery subset — first introduced in the previous set, Brilliant Stars — a 30-card bonus set within the booster packs featuring special artwork of Pokémon alongside their Trainers. The Trainer Gallery cards could also appear in booster packs, giving collectors another layer of chase cards beyond the main numbered set. The Trainer Gallery cards from Astral Radiance — including Hop's Zamazenta in full art — are among the most collected cards from this era.
Hisuian Decidueye VSTAR, Hisuian Typhlosion VSTAR, and Hisuian Samurott VSTAR round out the Hisuian starter lineup. Three new Radiant Pokémon also debut: Radiant Greninja, Radiant Hawlucha, and Radiant Heatran — shiny-alternate-art cards with a powerful rule restriction (only one Radiant Pokémon per deck) that makes them strategically interesting and visually distinctive.

Lost Origin — The Last Great Sword & Shield Set

Lost Origin is widely considered one of the finest Sword & Shield sets — and for many collectors, the most nostalgic. It introduced the Lost Zone mechanic to the modern Pokémon TCG era, reviving a classic game zone from the Diamond & Pearl era that removes cards from play entirely rather than sending them to the discard pile.
The headline card is Giratina VSTAR — the renegade Pokémon and master of the Distortion World, now with a VSTAR form that interacts directly with the Lost Zone. Giratina's Star Requiem VSTAR Power knocks out any Pokémon in play — one of the most dramatic VSTAR Powers ever printed — but requires you to have 10 cards in the Lost Zone to use it. That requirement built an entirely new archetype around it, and Giratina VSTAR became the defining competitive Pokémon of its season.
Aerodactyl VSTAR is another standout from the set, with its Ancient Star VSTAR Power shutting off Abilities on your opponent's Pokémon V and its Lost Dive attack dealing 240 damage.
Lost Origin also contains the Pikachu VMAX Gold Rare — one of the most visually striking cards from the Sword & Shield era, featuring Pikachu in Gigantamax form with a stunning gold treatment. It became one of the most photographed unboxing pulls of the era.
The second Trainer Gallery subset continues here, with 30 additional Trainer/Pokémon special arts including the iconic depiction of Chairman Rose flanked by Eternatus VMAX — a card that has become one of the most recognised pieces of Pokémon TCG artwork from the entire Sword & Shield series.
247 cards in total (196 regular cards plus 53 secret rares including 30 Trainer Gallery cards). By consensus one of the two or three best sets of the Sword & Shield era for both competitive play and collector value.
