When you touch an NFC touch point on the Wii U GamePad, Joy-Con or Nintendo Switch Pro Controller, the bottom of the New Nintendo 3DS and New Nintendo 3DS XL handhelds, or the special device for older Nintendo 3DS handhelds while playing a game, data is transferred to the game, which you can use in a variety of ways. Some games also record the data in your character as you play, so you can create truly unique amiibo figures.

The New Nintendo 3DS and New Nintendo 2DS XL feature built-in NFC technology, which allows you to connect an amiibo figure to a game by simply touching it to the bottom touch screen. Special accessories can be purchased for use with Nintendo 3DS and 2DS.
