When you touch the NFC touch point on the Wii U GamePad, Joy-Con, the bottom of the New Nintendo 3DS and New Nintendo 3DS XL handhelds, or the special device for older Nintendo 3DS handhelds while playing a game, data is transferred to the game, which you can use in a variety of ways. Some games also record the data in your character as you play, so you can create truly unique amiibo figures.

The New Nintendo 3DS has built-in NFC technology, which allows you to connect an amiibo figure to the game by simply touching it to the bottom touch screen.
